When these arrived from Kohchosai, our team member Ngan immediately said they would be perfect for shichimi togarashi. Ever since, that idea has been stuck in my head.
At the moment we keep seaweed rice seasoning in ours because the kids love sprinkling it over their bowls at dinner. But I already know this shaker’s real future. The next time I make it to an Asian grocer or specialty spice shop, I’m picking up a good shichimi togarashi. The proportions feel made for it. I can picture it sitting beside a steaming bowl of ramen, ready to add a little heat.
