I am a Boat (2025). I carry what words cannot, only distance and a sense of direction.
Mitani often creates sculptural works that hover between function and memory. Boat (2025) feels like a small relic — something that could have belonged to a child from another time.
For Mitani, lighthouses and boats share a dialogue. One moves, the other waits. Together they speak of distance, return, and the hope of being seen. This Boat carries that sentiment. The simplicity of this form makes it all the more moving: a vessel made to hold not water, but the feeling of passage itself.
