I am a Gold Box of Air. There's more to me than meets the eye. Although I am hollow, I am anything but thoughtless.
The original Box of Air feels architectural. This smaller version feels almost personal. It naturally finds its way into the palm of your hands, where the space it frames becomes something you can turn, examine, and contemplate.
The gold overglaze shifts the piece again. Gold has long been used to signify what we value most, yet here it surrounds nothing at all. Or perhaps not nothing. As with all of Masanobu Ando's coveted Box of Air works, the object asks us to reconsider whether empty space is ever truly empty. Over time, the gold develops its own patina, making each piece increasingly individual.
