I am a Small White Box of Air. Although it seems that I'd lose everything that I hold, when you look at me closer, you'll realize I'm actually not as airheaded as I seem.
Referring to the Seikatsu Kogei movement, of which he is a prominent member of, Ando-san said that, "we keep blank spaces within sculptures and vessels to inspire the user’s way of interaction with the piece." The openness of his ceramic practice is no more evident than in Box of Air, a beautiful piece that plays with our notions of what constitutes the separation of indoor/outdoor space. Handcrafted and coated with a matte white glaze, this unique piece can be enjoyed as a sculpture or holding a few sprigs of flowers inside.
