• Curator's Notes 

   

  Buns and topknots have a rich history in Japan, as worn by geishas, samurais and sumo wrestlers, and hair picks are frequently used to easily hold hair in place. This hair pick is simple and unadorned, allowing the beauty of its material to shine. Using traditional production techniques from the Nara period, this hair pick is made from boxwood tree that has been smoked to ensure its strength. Its tapered shape can secure even super fine hair, so you can easily twist your hair up and keep it away from your neck and face. The hole at the end is a nod to tradition, where geishas would attach a charm to personalize their style.
