I am a Cube Clay Glazed Vase. I may look square, but I don't always play by the rules.
The Cube Vase by Masanobu Ando embraces contradiction. At first glance, it appears to be a perfect cube, yet almost every detail pushes against that expectation. The rough, textured clay glazed exterior contrasts with the smooth gloss glazed interior, which reveals itself only at the opening. The square form is interrupted by a small circular opening at one corner of the cube instead of the center.
These subtle details completely change the way the vase is experienced - more as a sculpture than vase. The asymmetrical opening naturally encourages floral arrangements to weigh on one side, creating a composition that feels playful against the geometry.
