I am a Daruma. Good things tend to take their time. I don't grant wishes fast, but keep me close and I'll remind you to keep going.
We have a soft spot for Darumas, especially after learning about the tradition behind them. They're less about luck and more about commitment. You set an intention, fill in one eye, and only complete the second once your goal has been achieved. With the leather version though, perhaps painting the second eye isn't even necessary. Watching the leather age is its own marker of time.
That's what we love most about Hender Scheme's interpretation. The leather develops a rich patina over the months and years, becoming a reminder not only of what you set out to do, but of the time and experiences that came with it. There's something incredibly satisfying about comparing early photos to how it looks years later and realizing how much both you and the Daruma have changed.
