I am the book Designing Design. I'm not a tautology, and I'm not trying to be a riddle. I mean what I mean, and you'll understand when you read these readings.
It can be easy to spot good design, but how well do we understand what's driving it? Kenya Hara's book has had a huge impact on how we've come to look at that question and how we've developed the ethos behind our designs. In Designing Design, he pays tribute to long-overlooked Japanese icons and images to understand the meaning of "emptiness" and how it drives the visual and philosophical tradition of Japanese design. Throughout the book and illustrated by his own designs, Hara shows us how "taking something that we think we already know and making it unknown thrills us afresh with its reality and deepens our understanding of it".
