• Curator's Notes 

  There are some objects that feel as though they belong just as naturally in a contemporary art museum as they do in a home. This is one of them. Before a flower is ever placed inside, the 'L' shaped vase already holds its own as a composition of line, balance, and negative space.
  
  Hand built by Masanobu Ando, the piece has subtle irregularities beneath its hand-painted gold overglaze. The refined geometry is softened by the evidence of the maker's hand, keeping the vase from ever feeling rigid or precious. A single stem is often all it needs. The flowers become part of the composition rather than the focus itself.

  • One-of-a-kind functional sculpture vase handmade by Masanobu Ando in Tajimi, Japan
    
  • Features Masanobu Ando's signature stamp on the bottom of the vase
    
  • Built from slabs of clay with Japanese "tatara" technique
    
  • Can be hung on the wall on a hook or nail from a hole on the backside or sit flat as a sculpture
    
  • Flowers and water are contained through a small opening carved out in the piece
    
  • Gold overglaze will develop a natural patina over time 
    
  • Hand wash with mild soap and soft sponge if necessary
    
  • Dry with soft cloth after washing
