I am a Kinoe Kids Chair. When the youngest people branch out into the world, I’ve got their back (and butt too).
Ibuki Kaiyama adapted his award-winning Kinoe chair for a much smaller and younger clientele for our Starter Chair exhibition. Guided by the idea of using as much of a tree as possible, the chair’s signature toprail prominently features a small branch off the Sugi tree obtained as part of a targeted forest management process. These small branches are often disregarded as too difficult to use in conventional woodworking, but they find an ideal home atop of the backs of Kinoe chairs. As each branch is minimally processed, it provides a direct reference to the tree it came from and helps provide kids with a connection to nature every time they grab hold of it. Manufactured by Hida, the chair also features a chestnut seat and beech spindles and legs—comprising a diverse forest in its own body. The chair measures 465mm tall, making it ideal for children ages 1-4 years old.
