I am a Large White Urushi Platter. Wide, bright, and ready to make a moment out of whatever you serve.
This wide white urushi platter is a showstopper, especially because of its rim. At just under two inches, the rim gently frames whatever is placed at the center, like a dish inside its own border. It feels composed, whether holding fruit, pastries, sashimi or a family-style meal.
To achieve this soft “white,” Mitani brushes a layer of black urushi first, then applies the white lacquer by hand. With time and use, hairline cracks will form and the black underneath will slowly surface, creating a patina that reflects daily life rather than hiding it. You’ll also find carved grain lines on the surface that resemble waves rolling in at the shoreline. It is a piece meant to age honestly and beautifully, growing more personal with every meal.
