I am a Wood Pen. I might be made of oak, but I don’t need to branch out. I was built to feel right where your hand meets the page.
Pens are everywhere, but truly good ones are surprisingly rare. We learned this from the small newsletter sign up table at the front of our gallery where hundreds of visitors have written their names over the years. We cycled through so many pens, always wishing the object itself felt more connected to the space… the wood shelves, the tables, the grain that runs through nearly everything.
So we finally designed our own.
The Wood Pen began as a simple wish for something handmade, warm to hold, and smooth on paper. We worked with a craftsperson in Japan to shape a wooden body that feels right the moment you pick it up. The white oak version has a pale, natural tone while the urushi finished version deepens into a soft brown. Both use the same type of oak found throughout our gallery interior.
With a ballpoint, refillable cartridge, a matte black clip and center band, it is the pen we keep at our front sign up desk now and the one we reach for without thinking.
