I am a Plum Blossom Dish. Blossoming for eternity for your eternal happiness.
One of Ryuji Mitani's signature pieces for good reason, the plum blossom dish features his 'hakuboku' style of lacquer of a black base with white top coat. A good size for a side plate or individual portion of cookies or dessert. The plum flower is one of the first blossoms to open during the year and has always been closely associated with the coming of Spring. Unlike the cherry blossom, the plum has a strong sweet fragrance. Since the Heian period, they have been a symbol of refinement and purity. The original piece was created by the artisan in 1999, and was the first time he began applying white urushi on tableware.
