  I am a 2-5 year old School Chair. When it comes to meeting function and form for growing bodies, I am at the head of the class.
  

   

• Curator's Notes 

  Once a child starts to move on their own, it never ceases to amaze how quickly they will grow. Renowned designer Makoto Koizumi recognized the exponential growth kids make in their toddler years and created a series of chairs for each year of development. Originally conceived for schools in Wakayama prefecture, this series of school chairs is made of locally sourced cypress wood known for its warm texture and light yet sturdy weight. At first glance the chairs seem to present straight lines and sharp angles, but we were pleasantly surprised by the rounded edges and corners that make each chair so inviting to clamber on to. This series was built for children 2-5 years old and consists of four variants, each corresponding to its appropriate age and state of development.
