  I am a Tare Bowl. I'm a little bowl of tin. Fill me up and then dip in! 

   

• Curator's Notes 

   

  These radiant bowls are crafted of pure tin by skilled craftsmen in Takaoka City, an area renowned in Japan for its production of high-quality cast metal objects. Tin is an ideal material for tableware due to its natural antimicrobial properties and resistance to tarnishing. It also is great for keeping dishes chilled—just place the bowl in the fridge or freezer for a few moments before serving. But in addition to its functionality, the bowl has such a lovable, charming form, with gentle irregularities and a rustic simplicity. I love how the differing three sizes work together as a set.

  • Due to the hand-crafted nature of the product, as well as the malleability of tin, each piece will vary slightly in dimensions
  • "Tare" means sauce in Japanese - these bowls are ideal as vessels for holding various dipping sauces, but function equally as well for serving sake or other small quantities of food
  • Hand-crafted with traditional casting techniques used for over 400 years in the region
  • Chill the cup in the refrigerator or freezer before serving to help keep its contents cold and fresh
  • We recommend hand washing with mild soap and wiping dry with a soft cloth
