I am a Nano Glass Teacup. I’m basically a superhero in a wooden cape, here to guard your tea from daily villains. You’d never guess it, but that’s the point.
We have always admired Mitani-san’s teacups in urushi lacquer — the proportions, the way they sit in the hand, the perfect in-between size that never feels too precious. So when we first saw his all-wood versions, we wondered how they would function for tea. It wasn’t until Mitani -san explained the nano glass finish that everything clicked.
The interior is sealed with an invisible glass coating, giving the cup the same practical benefits we love in urushi — resistant to staining, moisture, and aroma — but with the grain fully visible and warm to the touch. The result is a cup that feels tactile, with all the reassurance of a protective finish. It captures the best of both worlds: the beauty of bare wood and the everyday usability of lacquer.
