I am a Black Japanese Cedar Wavok Stool and Side Table. Carved to last, I might be hollow but I don’t lack substance. Some things hold more than they seem.
We’ve long admired Toshimitsu Sasaki’s sculptural approach to furniture, and the Wavok Stool and Side Table is a perfect example. At first glance, it looks like a solid block of carved wood... weighty, monolithic. But lift it, and you’ll notice how surprisingly light it is. Hollowed from within yet fully stable, it’s a piece that balances visual heft with everyday practicality.
Available in two finishes, Japanese Cedar and Black Japanese Cedar, each version brings its own mood to a room. The natural cedar grain is soft and warm, while the blackened version has a more striking presence, especially in contrast to lighter interiors. Whether used as a stool, pedestal, or side table, the Wavok holds its own in a space. It’s a reminder that even functional pieces can carry the sensibility of a sculptor’s hand.
