I am a White Urushi Vat. Soft at every edge, but strong where it counts. I hold what you give me... fruit, bread, or the day’s small things, and make it feel a little more whole.
There’s something so inviting about this vat. Every corner and edge softened, rounded until there’s no clear beginning or end. It feels thick and warm in the hands, almost clay-like, with subtle chisel marks beneath Mitani’s putty-toned “white” urushi. What he calls white isn’t stark at all, but muted and natural, like stone or bone.
I love how it transforms depending on what you place inside like fruit, bread, small objects... it all feels right! It’s one of those pieces that becomes a natural part of a table, grounding everything around it.
