As a member of Seikatsu Kogei or Life Industrial Arts movement, Akiko Ando approaches textile and clothing design with much regard for how materials are used in daily life. Known for her original sarongs, she creates clothing with universal forms to allow her to focus and see the possibilities of fabrics from “all times and places”. Ando brings these considerations in textile design, meticulously weaving and stitching by hand to make the most of her materials. Akiko Ando runs Galerie Momogusa alongside her husband Masanobu Ando, where they celebrate the materials of their respective practices.
