Trays and waste baskets are often relegated to the background, but Saito aims to bring them to the forefront of our attention. As a pioneer in molded plywood, Saito elevates such home and office goods by celebrating the beauty of its construction and natural wood grain. Established in 1948 by Isamu Saito, the family-run company exemplify ingenuity and persistence in the face of scarcity. Adapting the technology to shape plywood into functional fuel tanks when iron was scarce during WWII, Saito shifted to molding layers of veneer into buckets and wine casks in 1957 in response to the lack of natural resources in the post-war period. Currently helmed by Takuya Saito, the third generation, the company continues to expand upon the shapes and possibilities of plywood fit for our modern homes.
