I am a Rectangle Cedar Tray. At first glance I might seem simple, but I know presentation is key. There's no way I'd let myself go to seed.
Made of Sugi (Japanese cedar), this simple yet handsome wood tray contains the pride of Japanese forestry and woodworking. Sugi is the national tree of Japan, often seen lining the path to temples and shrines. Its soft wood lends itself well to light construction and exudes a subtle and fresh fragrance. The rounded corners on this tray alludes to the traditional technique of Magewappa or steam-bent woodworking, and the bottom is treated with Uzukuri brushes to raise and highlight the hard grains of the cedar wood's surface. Featuring half the size of a traditional hassun-bon used for kaiseki, this tray is perfect for serving tea and putting small items on display.
