I am a Chair. Nothing brings people together like fine food, tea and good seats.
The simple shape of this chair has echoes of mid-century modern design, but the traditional joinery techniques, dark fuki-urushi finish, and slightly lower height make it distinctively Japanese. Details like the subtly tapered legs, the circular scoop of the seat, and the gentle curve of the backrest are in perfect balance, and not a nail nor screw disturbs the harmony of its form. The hand-lacquered wood is deceptively silken to the touch – in fact, fuki-urushi finish is highly durable and scratch-resistant. The warm, timeless presence of this chair will only develop with use and age.
