These trays are so beautiful in person! In Western culture lacquerware isn't as prevalent as in Japan where lacquereware is well-admired for the skill required to make such items. These wooden Makiji trays are particularly special because they are finished with a very durable lacquer that incorporates diatomaceous earth into it's base layer and top coat. These features make the tray extremely strong and scratch resistant. More than anything, we are in love with the deep red tone. Everything looks good displayed on a Makiji tray!
