• Curator's Notes 

  I have been completely taken by cherry bark as a material. There is something so grounding about that texture and grain, like a small piece of the outdoors living inside the home. These two piece boxes bring that same feeling into different rooms.

  The small sizes, in smooth and raw, are the ones I reach for most often. They sit neatly on a bedside table and hold the little things that never seem to have a home, like glasses, rings, hair ties, or the last items you take off at night. The large sizes, in smooth and raw, feel more like storage companions for hobby materials or special mementos. I use them for sewing notions and craft materials, and they are especially nice for storing postcards and photographs. The raw versions feel wilder and more tactile, while the smooth versions have a refined feel. Both remind me why cherry bark has such a long tradition in Akita - they simply make everyday objects feel more alive.
