  I am a Tonton Rocking Chair. Rock-a-bye baby, I'm made from tree tops. When the world feels tiring and overwhelming, I'll keep parent and child safe and cozy from the shock.

   

• Curator's Notes 

  We are honoured to have played a small part in inspiring the creation of this piece after asking designer Koizumi to design a rocking chair for our future life with kids. The time has come and as new parents, we realize that, despite the long days and restless nights, this stage of being able to rock our baby to sleep is fleeting. As such, it's become so important for us to relish these moments in such a supportive, relaxing seat. Developed over three years through extensive prototyping and testing, this solid bentwood rocking chair exemplifies the skill and quality of materials at the core of Miyazaki Chair Factory, ensuring that it will stand the test of time. Its gentle curves in the back and legs create a shape that is so cozy to hold a baby in. The pillow is attached to a wooden bar connected to the backside of the chair, which can move and be adjusted to a height that feels most comfortable to sit in. Drawing from the term “ton ton,” which means to pat a child’s head to sleep, the Tonton Rocking Chair is a comfy seat that not only lulls our baby to sleep, but also soothes our tired arms and feet.
