Kiso Lifestyle Labo is a family business run by son Takanori Kosegi, and his parents. Their production occurs in the Kiso Valley of Japan, which is at the helm of a think tank in the Nagano Prefecture dedicated to creating high quality products in cooperation with the skills and resources of the region. The Japanese government regulates sustainable harvesting of their forests to protect the "five sacred trees" - hinoki cypress, umbrella pine, tsuja, asunaro and sawara cypress. Of these, Kiso hinoki is the most esteemed. The forest surrounding the area is particularly rich in high-grade hinoki which is prized for its appealing scent, durability, and natural resin content that is resistant to mold and mildew.
