For five decades Michiaki Mochizuki (望月通陽) carved his own path within Japanese arts. Working across multiple disciplines and media, the artist has given new expression to traditional practices. Mochizuki adds his great sense of humour and whimsical shapes to tsutsugaki resist-dyed paintings, etching, bronze casting, calligraphy and ceramic sculpture. He brings gentle, curved lines and lively sensibilities to stage costumes for Japanese opera productions, interior and logo designs for independent businesses throughout the country, as well as award-winning book cover designs. Within his large body of work, Mochizuki builds a world of playfulness and wonder, to which we are honoured to invite you into.
