I am a Futon Floor Pad. I sit closest to the ground. Made slightly thicker, so I can handle the floors we live on and form the foundation of your sleep.
The futon is often misunderstood as a single object, something that folds out but, it is a system essentially made up of two parts: a floor pad and a mattress pad placed on top to lay on. The blankets and pillows lie above the mattress pad. This piece is the Futon Floor Pad, sitting directly on the ground and forming the foundation of the bed, with the Camel Hair Mattress Pad layered above.
Iwata has traditionally produced these at 7cm for use on tatami floors in Japan, which has a natural softness. In North America, where floors are typically wood, tile, or concrete, that same thickness can feel insufficient. We worked with Iwata to develop a 10cm version so it can be used more comfortably across a wider range of spaces. At 10cm, it can be placed directly on most floors without needing anything underneath.
If you have a tatami setup at home, 7cm can still work. For most other environments, 10cm feels more appropriate. Offered in standard Japanese bed sizes, Single and Semi-Double.
