Since we started Nalata Nalata, we quickly came to realize that Oji Masanori is an important figure and conduit between contemporary Japanese design with traditional arts and craft. Collaborating closely with various ateliers and foundries — Futagami, Jicon and Takahashi Kougei, to name a few — Oji brings a modern sensibility to product design that reflects the needs of contemporary consumers, as well as the meticulous craftsmanship behind an object. His vast experience in architecture, product, calligraphy and graphic design offers a more holistic view of how objects function, which he takes to a wide range of goods and products. By prioritizing the essence of a material and the history and expertise of the collaborating studio, he creates thoughtful and elegant designs that live and age well in any home.
